Earth System Research

Data- and computation-intensive computer models are developed at CASUS that allow ecological, hydrological and socio-economic effects of global change to be studied in unprecedented spatial and temporal resolution and in their complex interactions. CASUS will provide projections for entire ecosystems and their ecosystem functions for the next 50 to 100 years, including their:

  • biogeochemical cycles
  • water quality and quantity
  • biomass production and agricultural yields
  • biodiversity

Land use options – strategies and adaptation to global change. Computer models and scenarios play an important role in the development of integrated land use strategies. CASUS will provide forecasts for entire ecosystems and their ecosystem functions for the next 50 to 100 years.
