The Helmholtz Association of German Research Centers e. V. consists of 18 independent centers and is considered the largest German research organization. The Helmholtz Imaging unit, which specializes in imaging, was looking for the Helmholtz Association’s “Best Scientific Image 2022” and received numerous suggestions from all over Germany.
The exhibition shows 20 of the best images selected by the international jury from 91 submissions.
Among the top 3 winning images of the competition awarded by the jury is also one by CASUS’ Scientific Head Michael Bussmann:
1. “Europe in winds” submitted by Nikolay Koldunov from Alfred Wegener Institute, Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research (AWI)
2. “Laser wakefield accelerator for electrons” submitted by Michael Bussmann
from the Center for Advanced Systems Understanding (CASUS) at HZDR
3. “Finding rare earths from space” submitted by Sandra Lorenz, René Booysen &
Richard Gloaguen from Helmholtz Institute Freiberg for Resource Technology (HIF) at HZDR
We had very inspiring conversations with tourists (also former scientists among them) and Görlitz inhabitants as well when the exhibition made a stop in Görlitz from 10 July to 27 July 2022.
