The Center for Advanced Systems Understanding opened its doors on the second day of the Görlitz-based Fokus Festival
Build molecules, conduct electricity with the help of a pencil, or get lost in a virtual reality created at the intersection of science and art: CASUS offered a wide variety of activities, which were received very well.
In 2026, the CASUS team had already been present at science festivals in Dresden and Zittau. In late August, the Görlitz-based center eventually informed about its work at home. Everyone interested was invited to come and talk with the team directly at the CASUS premises at Conrad-Schiedt-Straße.
The event took place in parallel to the Fokus Festival, which will was held on August 21 and 22 across from the CASUS building, in and around Rabryka. The festival featured music, art, and plenty of hands-on activities demonstrating just how creative and vibrant Görlitz is.

CASUS blended in perfectly with its offers. The team welcomed many parents with their kids who carried out short experiments but also many Görlitz residents who were interested in the future development of CASUS, its buildings and the science community in Görlitz in general. In addition, CASUS employees—who have been involved with the “Jugend hackt” initiative for several years—presented their biweekly extracurricular offer showcasing a robot arm and a pen plotter.
The video above gives a great sense of the event.
