Two perspectives on electron dynamics in quantum dots: quantum simulation and quantum computers

Abstract of the talk// Quantum dots (QDs) are optoelectronic materials, whose electronic structure can be designed to meet diverse requirements. They are among the still long list of qubit materials to build a quantum computer. However, dissipation pathways as the phonon-mediated, the Auger or the inter-particle Coulombic decay [1] need to be understood to be surpressed. Such processes in quantum dots are studied by means of wave function-based electron-dynamics simulations [2,3].
Any simulations nowadays are explored for their performance using quantum algorithms, especially when reaching their computational limits. This presentation identifies a strategy to address electron dynamics in quantum simulations [4] and explores from there an improved Hamilton simulation.

CV// Annika Bande is a Professor at Leibniz University Hannover, a member of the Excellence Cluster PhoenixD, and Research Group Leader at Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin (HZB). From 1999 to 2004, she studied Chemistry at RWTH Aachen University (Germany). From 2004 to 2007, she pursued her PhD there as well. Afterwards, she was a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Colorado in Boulder (USA), followed by a postdoctoral position at the Quantum Chemistry Research Institute in Kyoto (Japan) from 2008 to 2009. From 2010 to 2014, she was a postdoctoral researcher at Heidelberg University (Germany). From 2014 to 2023, she was a Freigeist YIG Leader at HZB. In 2020, she completed her habilitation in Theoretical Chemistry at Freie Universität Berlin.
Annika Bande will be talking live in Görlitz.
