CASUS Workshop
Rocket flight – from take-off to landing
This spring, we will transform CASUS (Center for Advanced Systems Understanding) into a launch pad for young engineers, inventors and programmers. Experience four exciting days full of science, technology, fun, and teamwork! CASUS is inviting kids aged 10-16 from the European City Görlitz/Zgorzelec region to join a rocket building and programming workshop.
Group A – Children aged 10 to 12 will build and launch their own rockets made of scrap PET bottles. This is the first step for future missions in space or climate research. 😉
Group B – Teenagers aged 13 to 16 will design and build an electronic system for the rocket with sensors and actuators, and write control software to ensure a smooth landing.
Both offers run in parallel. On the last day, the results will be merged and (hopefully) the engineering and programming parts interlock smoothly to safeguard both the start and the soft landing of the rockets.
The event is organized by the CASUS Scultetus Center team and will be led by CASUS scientists Dr. Jiri Vyskocil and Dr. Andreas Knüpfer.
WHEN: April 22 (Tuesday) to 25 (Friday), 2025
SCHEDULE: each day starts at 9 am and ends around noon WHERE: CASUS, Werk 1 site (Conrad-Schiedt-Straße 20, entrance in the courtyard).
LANGUAGES: If you speak one of the following languages you can follow the workshop from start to end: German, English, Polish.
REGISTRATION:
(The number of places is limited. Based on your age you will be registered for either group A or B. The organizer reserves the right to contact only registered participants. The order of correct applications is decisive.)
